In 2003, Kathleen Folbigg was wrongly jailed for the deaths of her four children.
She always maintained her innocence, but one of the only people who believed her was her childhood friend Tracy.
Together, Tracy and Kathleen fought the justice system for years, launching multiple appeals and eventually seeing two separate inquiries in the case in 2019 and 2022.
Their work drew the attention of scientists, philosophers, journalists and lawyers.
An episode of Australian Story in 2018 helped kickstart vital scientific research into the case.
When the science caught up, everything changed. After DNA testing revealed a genetic mutation had taken the lives of her children, Kathleen was pardoned, released from prison, and exonerated in 2023.
She returned to live with Tracy for a few months, before beginning her life again.
Now Kathleen and Tracy are telling their story of their 20-year battle for justice.
